Mauritius will manage the Chagos MPA better
A recent article in Oceanographic Magazine has highlighted the stark truth about the UK current management of MPAs. More than 1.3 million tonnes of fish were caught inside of the UK’s Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) in the four years since 2020, exposing – campaigners have said – the “stark difference” between the political promises and reality at sea. https://oceanographicmagazine.com/news/protected-only-on-paper-industrial-trawlers-plundering-uks-mpas/ Nearly 40% of the UK’

Why is Mauritius so successful?
There are 16 Public holidays in Mauritius 4 Christian, 4 Muslim, 4 Hindu, 4 chosen by Governement. They create a shared joy because all are celebrated by the entire population. Yesterday was Sunday, and we normally dive on Sundays, but the boat is having a service, so I drove to Grand Bay to buy supplies. To my surprise the Christian Church was packed to the rafters, with standing room only outside and a full Police presence needed to direct the traffic! My friends in the UK

Protecting the reefs in Mauritius
We sometimes get a request for a Discover Scuba Diving session on Coin de Mire Island. We were wrong. Coin de Mire has been fished out. No big shoals, not much variety, and plenty of algea, coral rubble and dead corals. Why? This Titan Trigger fish excavated a 1 metre by 500 cm h

What is the best time of year to go scuba diving in Mauritius?
Diving in Mauritius is good all year, and for very different reasons. If you are a new diver, the calm ocean surface, normal lack of current and the protective surrounding barrier reefs and easy accessibility to the dive sites makes it an ideal place to learn to dive. The shallow reefs are close to shore, so there is no difficult or demanding boat trip. So diving is possible year-round. The ocean temperature has a variation of 24-25 degrees in the winter when I wear a 5 ml we

Do I need prior experience or certification to Discover Scuba Diving?
Absolutely- don't even consider doing this without training. Luckily our PADI Discover Scuba Diving program makes this easy for beginners. Scuba diving is one of the most rewarding and exciting experiences a human can have, but it also requires more careful training than most sports. Humans are not naturally equipped to breathe underwater; you need specialized scuba diving equipment (Self Contained Underwater Breathing Apparatus) to do this, and that means you must learn how
