Yesterday we received this incredible accolade from Green Fins, and today we shared it with our friends and followers. Take a look:
Although Reef-World is an NGO, its is a group under the International Auspices of some of the worlds top diving Federations. To obtain our PADI Eco Centre Accreditation we had to join them but more than that, we had to fulfill all their requirements, wait a year and fill in our own conservation activities, and establish a conservation plan for the coming year.
Ocean Spirit joined PADI Aware in 2017, so we have always promoted the Ocean Conservation message, but Green Fins actually polices its members, sets objectives, and adjudicates the success of these objectives. This is inspiring, and its great to see that Green Fins recognises effort. Thank you to Erin.
Conservation never stops- despite seeing the the bigger picture, realising that the Gulf Stream is slowing, and that the world is drifting into icecap meltdown, as diving centres we can only change what we can control.
In Mauritius, our incredibly pro-active companies are always ready tpo dive in to help. We started our conservation journey by assisting The Tap Water revolution with Karun Rana #karunarana and Barkha Mossae #barkhamossae,two passionate young women who inspired Ocean Spirit in the early days of ocean conservation in Mauritius.
This resulted in the resorts and hotels establishing cold water points and providing refillable bottles for their residents. It decimated the number of plastic bottles bought in the supermarkets by tourists.
Our next objective in conjunction with the revitalized Tap Water Revolution is to encourage the Supermarket chains provide the same service. Most tourists would prefer to use their own water bottles, and if the Supermarket chains sold refillable bottles and provided cold water dispensers directly to their clients it would create a massive decrease in the number of plastic water bottles used in Mauritius.
Our next step will be to approach PHOENIX Beverages https://phoenixbev.mu/ to assist with this project- they are by far the largest supplier of plastic bottled water in Mauritius.
Ocean exploration has become a new sector in the Travel and Tourism industries, with many people looking to learn more about this. This site shows how seriously the UK Tourism Industry is taking ocean travel.
